Jim Carroll, punk, poet, and author of the Basketball Diaries died on Sept. 11, 2009 at age 60. Known for his story-telling lyrical style found in songs such as “People Who Died” and “Catholic Boy”, and also for his autobiographical novel, The Basketball Diaries. The book was later released as a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, but I don’t believe it did the book justice. Carroll’s writing was compared to that of Bob Dylan and the early Beat poets such as William Burroughs.
